The 2026 season has been another memorable chapter for Linwood Rugby, with success across the grades, finals appearances, representative honours, and plenty of moments that showcased the character, commitment, and pride that define the Bulls.
From championship glory to heartbreaking near-misses, the senior club once again demonstrated the strength of the Linwood rugby community and its continued drive to build Eastside Excellence.
Wāhine Claim Competition Glory
A standout highlight of the season was the Linwood Wāhine taking out the competition, delivering a fantastic result for the club. Their achievement is a testament to the effort, commitment, and team spirit shown throughout the season, providing another reason for the Linwood faithful to celebrate.
Their success is an important part of the wider Linwood Rugby story, showcasing the talent, determination, and pride of the women representing the black and green. Congratulations to the entire Wāhine squad, coaches, and support crew on a fantastic achievement — the whole Linwood family celebrates with you!
Premier Men: Three Consecutive Finals
The Premier Men continued to establish themselves as one of the competition's consistent contenders, reaching the grand final for the third consecutive year.
While the ultimate prize proved just out of reach, the manner of the defeat made the result particularly heartbreaking. After another season of hard work, determination, and resilience, the side came agonisingly close to lifting the trophy.
Despite the disappointment, reaching three consecutive finals is an achievement that should not be understated. The challenge now is to turn those experiences into motivation, learn from the fine margins that separate the best, and return next season determined to take that final step.
Division 2 Men: A Season of Commitment
The Division 2 Men also earned their place in the final, capping off a season of dedication and hard work. Although they were unable to finish the job on the day, reaching the final represents a significant achievement and reward for the effort invested throughout the campaign.
The result will undoubtedly leave the group hungry for more, with valuable finals experience to take into the next season.
Colts: Building the Next Generation
The future of Linwood Rugby was also on show through the Colts, who qualified for the middle-tier playoffs.
Developing young players and creating pathways into senior rugby remains an important part of the club's future. The Colts' progression reflects the work being done to prepare the next generation of Bulls, building the skills, confidence, and team culture needed to make the transition into senior rugby.
Their playoff campaign provides a strong foundation to build on as these players continue their rugby journeys.
Classics: Unbeaten Until the Semi-Final
The Classics delivered an impressive campaign, going unbeaten throughout the season until their semi-final.
Their run was a fantastic reflection of the camaraderie, consistency, and passion that make rugby special at every level. While the semi-final brought their unbeaten streak to an end, their performances throughout the season provided plenty to celebrate.
The Classics continue to embody the community spirit at the heart of Linwood Rugby, proving that the pride of wearing the black and green extends well beyond the playing years.
40+ Representative Honours: Eastside Excellence Beyond the Club
One of the most significant achievements of the season came off the back of the club's individual success, with more than 40 Linwood players and coaches earning representative rugby honours.
This is an outstanding reflection of the talent, hard work, and dedication within the club, as well as the commitment of the coaches who continue to develop players and help them reach their potential.
Representative selection is a tremendous personal achievement, recognising the effort that goes into performing at a high level. It is also something the entire Linwood family can celebrate together. Every player and coach representing their province, region, or representative programme carries a part of the club with them, and their success is shared by the teammates, coaches, volunteers, families, and supporters who have helped them along the way.
To all those who earned representative honours this season, congratulations. The Linwood family is proud of your achievements, and we look forward to seeing you continue to represent yourselves, your teams, and the black and green with pride.
Building Eastside Excellence
Across the senior grades, the 2026 season delivered competition success, finals football, representative recognition, player development, and plenty of reasons to be proud. While some campaigns ended in celebration and others in disappointment, every team and individual contributed to another important season for the club.
The Wāhine brought home competition glory, the Premier Men reached their third consecutive final, the Division 2 Men fought their way to a final, the Colts progressed to the middle-tier playoffs, and the Classics enjoyed an unbeaten run through the regular season before their semi-final. The 40-plus representative selections further underline the depth of talent and commitment throughout the Linwood community.
There is plenty to build on heading into the next campaign. The challenge remains to keep developing players, strengthening connections across the grades, and creating an environment where every team can compete at its best.
To all players, coaches, managers, volunteers, supporters, sponsors, and families who contributed throughout the season — thank you for your commitment to Linwood Rugby.
The results matter, but so does the work that goes in behind the scenes, the people who stand beside the club, and the pride that comes with representing the Eastside.
The season may be over, but the work continues. Eastside Excellence. Go the Bulls!
